still alive

Hallo an alle,
das ist nur eine kurze Nachricht von mir aus der Tom Price Stadt Buecherei um zu sagen dass ich immer noch am Leben bin, nichts schlimmes bis jetzt passiert ist, ich bin ok, mein Auto laeuft super (ausgenommen einer durchgebrannten Sicherung fuer den Zigarettenanzuender was ich grad eben gefixt lassen habe so dass ich mein Telefon aufladen und das Navi nutzen kann), ich bin von nicht gebissen worden (ausser Moskitos), ich bin kein dummes Zeug angestellt, ich habe noch keinen Sonnenbrand bekommen und ich mag meinen Trip total! Meine Stationen bis jetzt waren New Norcia, Moora, Dalwallinu, Mt. Magnet, Cue, Meekateraa, Paynes Find, Newman, Karinji National Park und jetzt Tom Price, welches ich aufgrund einer morgigen Tour Mittwoch morgen in Richtung Westen (Onslow oder Exmouth) verlassen werde.

this is just a short message out of Tom Price Community Library to say that I'm still alive, nothing bad happened, I'm alright, my car is running fine (except for a blown fuse for the cigarette lighter which I just got fixed now so that I can recharge my phone and use the GPS), I did not get bitten by anything (except mosquitoes), I did not do any stupid stuff, I did not get sunburn yet and I absolutely love my trip!!! My tour points up until now were New Norcia, Moora, Dalwallinu, Mt. Magnet, Cue, Meekateraa, Paynes Find, Newman, Karinji National Park and now Tom Price, which I gonna leave due to a tour tomorrow on wednesday morning to the west to Exmouth or Onslow.

Ab nach Norden!

Ich hab mich jetzt endlich mal zusammengerissen, Karten angeschaut, Touristenbücher gelesen, mein Auto zur Inspektion gebracht, Zelt und Wasserkanister gekauft und morgen geht es los - ich gehe endlich backpacken!!!
Ok, es ist nicht richtig backpacken, es werden so um die 20 Tage, dann bin ich wieder zurück in Perth, aber immerhin beweg ich mich mal von Perth weg. Um genau zu sein geht es in den Norden von West Australien, zum Ende der Saison nutze ich noch das gute Wetter. Ende der Saison weil Nord WA liegt näher am Äquator, so dass es statt der vier Jahreszeiten Frühling, Sommer, Herbst und Winter nur die Trocken und die Regenzeit gibt, und die fürs Reisen nicht geeignete Regenzeit so langsam am anfangen ist.
Auf der Karte ist meine geplante Strecke (so um die 4000km) zu sehen, falls ihr keine blauen Striche seht müsst ihr auf den Link für die grössere Karte klicken. Es ist nicht jeder Ort und jede Attraktion verzeichnet, aber das ist die grobe Route. Wenn ich unterwegs Internetcafes finde, lade ich Bilder und Geschichten hoch.

I finally got myself together, had a look at maps, a read through all the tourist information things, got my car through an inspection, bought a tent and some water cans and tomorrow is the big day - I'm finally going backpacking!
Ok, it's not real backpacking, it's gonna be around 20 days, then I'm back in Perth, but still, I'm actually going really away from Perth! To be exact, I'm going up north, where it's the end of the season and I' going to get get some good weather. End of season, because the North is closer to the equator, so instead of the seasons of spring, summer, fall and winter there is just the wet and dry season, and the wet season which is about to start is not good for traveling.
On the map is my planned route (about 4000km), if you can't see blue lines please click on the link for the bigger map, but I didn't put stops in for every village and tourist attraction. If I find internet cafes on the way, I gonna put up photos and stories.

Big Brother

Woran erkennt man, dass man als Backpacker fürchterlich versagt hat? Man bekommt einen Brief von der Australian Electoral Commission (Australisches Wahlbüro) zugesendet mit der Aufforderung, sich doch bitte für seinen Wahlkreis anzumelden, weil man doch in diesem jetzt ansässig sei.
Zur Information: In Oz ist wählen Pflicht, meldet man sich nicht an oder geht nicht wählen wird eine Strafe fällig.

How do you recognize that you are an utter failure as backpacker? If you receive a letter from the Australian Electoral Commission saying that you have to enrol because you are a resident for this address.
Just for information, it's not compulsory to vote in Germany, if you don't want to, you just don't go, and there are no fines.

Auf der anderen Seite, als ich im Juli zurück in D war, habe ich mir ein Formblatt von der Stadt geben lassen, dass ich als nicht in D mit einem Wohnsitz behafteter Bürger bitte mich doch trotzdem zur Bundestagswahl anmelden möchte. Und kaum zu glauben, die Bürokratie hat funktionert, ich habe Anfang September meine Briefwahlunterlagen nach Oz(!) zugesendet bekommen. Ich hab den Schein gleich am selben Tag wieder zurückgesendet, ob's was geholfen hat hab ich nur keine Ahnung, da ich nicht weiss wie schnell die Post war.

On the other hand, when I was back in Germany in July I got myself a form from the council that I please want to vote for the German federal election in September, even though I'm not a German resident anymore. And, really unbelievable, I got the election paper sent to me here in Australia in early September, and I sent everything filled out back on the same day. But I doubt that my vote made a difference, as I don't know how fast the post is.

Namensgeber

Als ich gestern durch die Stadt bin, hab ich ein sehr interessantes Geschäft gesehen. Irgendwer hat da was verschwiegen.

I had a walk through the city yesterday and found a very interesting name for a store. Somebody didn't tell all there is to tell.

PS: Für alle die den Witz nicht verstehen, Stefan ist sowas wie der Familienname (letzte Zählung war bei acht Stefans), und plötzlich sind wir in Diamanten? Okay, ich zumindest find es lustig...

PS: For everyone who doesn't get the joke, Stefan is kinda family name (last count eight Stefans), und suddenly we are in diamonds? Sorry, that's just that kind of shit I find funny...
